Morphology, Anatomy, Micromorphology, and Palynology of the Squirrel’s Foot Fern, Davallia mariesii (Davalliaceae)

Davallia mariesii T. Moore ex Baker, a member of the section Trogostolon (Copel.) M. Kato and Tsutsumi (Davalliaceae M.R. Schomb.), is lithophytic or epiphytic herb that grows on rocks tree trunks in montane forests. This study analyzed morphological, anatomical, micromorphological, palynological characteristics D. using digital slide scanner field-emission scanning electron microscope presented an expanded updated description. A circumendodermal band was observed anatomical structure stipe, making second species family Davalliaceae with such band. The frond studies revealed epidermal cells indusium were thicker than those epidermis both sides hypostomatic fronds stomata chambers present. Diacytic, anisocytic, tetracytic stomatal complexes abaxial surfaces. indusia covered numerous sporangia. Leptosporangium consisted apical cap, basal annulus, stalk. spore had ellipsoidal outline, monolete aperture, verrucae colliculate ornamentation. obtained results provide systematic data for phylogeny establish basis future taxonomic delimitation other taxa.
